This retailer recognized that - high quality and beautifully constructed though they were - her home-furnishing lines would be judged first by their appearance, so lighting had to be exceptional. In addition, the store lighting had to produce a warm, inviting mood, and complement, rather than compete with, lamps on the sales floor.

Because all businesses must control costs, the retailer wanted to maximize use of existing fixtures and electrical boxes. We showed her how to relamp and refinish acceptable fixtures and how to reconfigure or replace those that were beyond resurrection or were functionally inadequate.

In addition, we specified an affordable automated lighting-control system to provide progressive after-hours product displays while conserving power and avoiding a flat, overlit appearance. And we worked with the retailer's own electrician to make sure they would be installed properly and would function appropriately. Client comment: "Customers who saw the shop 'before' can't believe it's the same space…David [owner of Great Lighting] was fantastic to work with…I'm thrilled with the result".
